RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
G'day over there in Perth.
You have a Decathlon don't you? Which model is it?
I am building a Black Horse 60 size at the moment. Not putting a Saito in it but a Laser 100 instead. My Saito 100 is in my Four Star 60.
It seems rather short coupled. I hope it is not too difficult to keep straight on the ground.

Hi Mike,
Yeah they do like to ground-loop on take-off. Just gotta learn NOT to feed it the fat too quickly, let the tail come up then increase the motion lotion and rotate. Once in the air they're sweet. I know a guy that put a gyro ( GWS PG-03 ) on for rudder control.. that worked well. Mine is a GP Super Decathlon with a Laser 70 in it.
OF>>> Here's some "noisier" wee vids of the Saito Cessna in action at Wigram... wonder if a Turbomuffler would sound much better???

Enjoy that Saito sound... I do

Good to hear from you mike.I have two 46 size kits one blackhorse and a seagull flying with an 82 which suits it.Yours is a nicer looking kit,better wing strut setup too.Nice engine cowl cutout.
If you power up gradually you won't need much left rudder,just a couple of dabs during the middle phase on takeoff.The rudder is VERY effective,good luck.

Nice sound on flyby.Meant to say i'm fitting a 182td and not the 180 in a h9 taylorcraft.Where did all the new sheds at the end of the clip come from? looks way different except for the old flight tower and hangers.Saw a 180 cessna being used for crop dusting at ardmore years ago.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
G'day Beaver and OF. Thanks for the info. Sounds like it will be like my little Auster. It too likes to ground loop and stall on take off. The one good take off I did was long and gradual. Will try to keep the juice under control.
Just about to head out for a fly. Saito 72 in a Kadet Senior. Well overpowered even running rich. Still running in but getting better all the time.
In the photo it has a 62 in it but that has since migrated to a Lanzo Bomber.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
hey guys...
I have a question for all of the long time users of the 4-stroke's (saito),,,,
What would a comparison of fuel comsumption be of a 4-stroke to a 2-stroke...???
I know the whole theory...."2-stroke uses 2x's the fuel"....But what is a realistic figure??
I have a pair of 4-stroke's but have mainly been running 2-strokes.....
I had thought a saito 150-180 were heavy fuel drinkers.... but It seems that the average flight times
for my 2-strokes no matteer the plane....is aroung 10min of flight time....

A lot depends on the props, your needle settings and how you fly.
My experience is that the four strokes use about 3/4 as much fuel as a two stroke
But a Saito 180 is going to use a lot of fuel just because of its size

Most 4-stroke engines I see are not finely tuned and thus use more fuel. When lean, they just quit at some point.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Interesting discovery, found a muffler extension going into a piece of rubber tubing instead of a muffler on the Waco Bipe today, and no muffler pressure tap, just a long piece of tubing coming from the tank vent pipe and hanging loose..
I'll admit, I've never tried to run a Saito without its pressure tap, will it still run right? I've had my doubts as to whether this guy I bought the plane from ever actually flew it. One bit of evidence says he probably didn't, the next says he might have. Nothing conclusive yet. The motor has been run, it's dirty and it's been on there a while, and it has also left real dents where it was mounted and so forth. But ...... did it run very well, that's the big question....
At any rate, I dug around in my old parts box and I found a Saito 150 muffler from my distant past, and screwed it onto the extension. Of course, then it stuck WAY down out the bottom of the plane, so I removed the motor, flexed the extension a little more and ran it down between the motor and the firewall between the engine rails and crossed it over to go out the other hole in the cowling, where it looks great and only sticks out an inch or so.
I'm interested in any comments from any of you guys who have run them without pressure taps or using straight pipes...
Here it is, it's the top center cylinder, the rest is the fake Radial....

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Hi Everyone
I think there is no better place to place my question...
I need a muffler manifold from a Saito 60-90, the ones that have the M12x1 thread size. Right now I live in germany and I can't find a dealer that carries Saito parts, Does anyone know where I can get it here in Europe?
In the USA I can find it quite easy, and it cost about 10 bucks, but...they want 35 USD to send it here...no way, and I just need the manifold!!
Any suggestions?
Saludos,
Jorge

Jim a guy ask me to run a Graupner 12.5x7 3 blade on my Saito 1.15, it is a hard turning prop that my Fox .74 Diesel can only swing at 8,400. To my surprise the 1.15 turned it at 9,650 with a fantastic idle at 2,000.
Saito 1.15
Plug==Fox Miracle
Fuel WildCat 15% with 18% 80/20 blend
Stock exhaust==9,650
TurboHeader===9,740
Nothing like a well balanced 3 blade for a smooth idle.
The Graupner 12.5x7 has blades approximately 1/8th inch wider than similar sized two bladers.

Thanks for the replys.
I had already found this pages and in Austria they don't have the manifold...and aero naut doesn't show the parts.... looks like this manifold is quite a problem to find!
