That's why I always recommend setting the LS needle while the HS needle is at absolute peak. Then when you get the LS needle too leam it will be real obvious.

OF, I guess you're coming into your spring down yonder, it's getting cold here, not too many Harley days left. If its like ;ast winter I rode it anyway.
Thanks i'm slowly getting the hang of it i think,it's when i don't think that i get myself wound up in knots.

Ride your bike whenever possible,it's one of the main meanings in life to be brief.

G'day Dave. You will, of course, be buying one? Actually, I am sure they have done it to improve performance and as an aid to more efficient cooling. And as gold does not corrode, the bearings are probably gold too so you can run 40% nitro with no problems.

Isn't marketing wonderful?

Ah yes, goild does conduct heat very well, but does gold anodizing do as well? What is the Karat of the gold plating, or is it on a string at the end of a pole?
:-)

As some of you know I have done two power point presentations on repairing my 180 and more recently a 91S. I tried to post it a number of times on U Tube but have been unsuccessful. Both Files are quite large 40 mgs each. I would love to share them so that others do not have the same struggle as I had. Any suggestions??/
Kevin
You may want to take a look through the powerpoint settings on your computer. There is an option to optimise the resolution of pics in your presentation solely for viewing purposes. The embedded pics may be in a much higher resolution than needed...for a ppt. I've done this a few times and managed to cut 40MB presentations down to a managable 5-10MB.

I see you've already resolved the problem so ignore my comments above.

I am looking for your input.  I bought a Saito 72 from Ebay.  It is nice and clean with no visible damage.  It has good compession.  When I start it it starts up just fine and ideals Ok.  However when I advance the throttle it sputters and dies around 1/3ed throttle.  Leaving the glow driver on does not seem to make any difference.  I checked the fuel supply and it is just fine.  I put in a new glow plug and got the same results.

     Any suggestions?

Sounds like the low speed needle is set too lean.

Unscrew the low speed needle to be flush with the throttle arm and go over your needle valve stting operation again

Old Saito 72 engines have trouble with the intake manifold leaking at the head junction

This requires a new back plate and a new Oring at at the manifold - head

Thanks,
Mine has the black plastic throttle arm. The manual says to set it at 1/16th in from flush. Is this correct? Or do I indeed set it flush? Iwill set the carb back to breakin setting as you suggested. As for the manifold leaking. I did not think of that. I just noticed that the carb is 180 around from my other 72 I bought new. Would this make a difference?

1/16th in will be fine for a beginning position

The carb turned around makes no difference

Hey guys, I've been layed up all summer with a broken ankle. I have had all kinds of time to start reading forums on RCU, ran across this forum and I am really impressed with the wealth of knowledge of you guys on Saito engines. Have'nt read all the posts yet, but plan to. I have several Saito's including a.82 0n a H9 Piper Pawnee, 1.00 on a SIg Four star 60, a1.00 on a GP UCANDO 60, 1.25 waiting on a bird, a 1.80 on a H9 Stik 120 Lite and a 2.20 currently being installed in a GP Giant Aeromaster bipe. Have'nt had any problems to speak of with any of them, I run them upright, sideways and inverted. One question though, how do you become a Club Saito member? Well, better quit rambling and let someone else post, again thanks to all!
Dave

My 180 is not getting the rpm that the specks says it should. I am running a 16/8 propellor using 15% Cool Power and only getting 8,300 rpm. Not that the Diablo is under powered but I was just wondering if there is any thing I can do. I did adjust the low speed idle jet quite lean to get the idle speed I wanted and am not sure if this would affect the high speed adjustment.
You should be getting 8600-9000 off a 18x6w apc and around 8400 on a 18x6 Xoar .
Why the pics of the 3D Hobby AJ Slick ? You should try the 180 in the 70" Slick
