German engineer Nicolaus Otto was the first to develop a functioning four-stroke engine, which is why the four-stroke principle today is commonly known as the Otto cycle and four-stroke engines using spark plugs often are called Otto engines. The Otto Cycle consists of adiabatic compression, heat addition at constant volume, adiabatic expansion and rejection of heat at constant volume.

Merry Christmas everyone!

How about a trivia question? I will offer a free TurboHeader of your choice to the first post with a correct answer to the following questions:
Moderators excluded, please.

1. Who patented the first four stroke engine and what year?

2. Who built the first operable four stroke engine and what was it called?

You must be specific and complete in your answers and quote your source.

I ask that a moderator validate the answers.

Jim
1. The four-stroke engine was first patented by Eugenio Barsanti and Felice Matteucci in 1854, followed by a first prototype in 1860.

Hardenberg, Horst O., The Middle Ages of the Internal combustion Engine, Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), 1999

Mike,

I think your references speak for themselves. Don't you have enough TurboHeaders already?? What model would you like? Send me a PM with your address so I don't have to go back in my files.

Merry Christmas!!!

CorsairJock- Glad you found us. You are number 670
Thank you, my signature has been updated.

And speaking of TurboHeaders: one is installed on the Saito 100 GK powered Top Flite P-47 ARF that I posted a pic of few posts back. But, you can't see it because it and the engine are completely inside the cowl, and there are no holes in the cowl other than 2 small carb adjustment access holes and a hole on the bottom for the glo-lighter to be inserted thru. I attached a Hobbico silicone exhaust delector to the TurboHeader, and that it where the exhaust exits.

Lastly, a little off the subject: yes, those are genuine Vortac bombs, hanging from genuine Vortac mechanisms below the wings.

That is probably the biggest disadvantage of Saito engines (besides the price): Availability of replacement parts.

The rod is out of stock by everyone even in G B.

Saito has redesigned the rod to be compatible with the FG-30 which is the gas 180.

Until the supply line gets filled up again, they are going to be scarce.

The Lavocheko would be great, but with retracts, cowl, canopy, kits, and delivery about $645 .. whew, but a beautiful eye catcher and with a Saito FA-180. Wow what a warbird!

I need Saito engine information. I have a Saito 150 and need to adjust the gap on the rockers. What is the proper gap for each rocker? Also does anyone have an extra muffler or pipe that will fix a 150?

The exhaust for the Saito 120, 150 & 180 will all fit each other

The valve adjustment is .002" to .004" clearance
