RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
After reading Bill's excellent tutorials on this site I installed the stacks on my .56's and 72/s... Being the owner of a couple of .72's I am frequently replacing the O rings on the intake manifold... I use the old O-rings between the stack's and the carb when installing the stacks... Seems to be a real good fit... Haven't had any problems with them yet..
IC.. The gasket sets are not very expensive from Horizon...

Gary, my 1.25 has no throttle barrel spring either nor does it need one, I could not detect any sideways movement so I pull the barrel retainer screw and removed the barrel to check, no spring and the barrel retainer screw to slot fit is very precise.

Is it possible to buy just those O-rings without a whole gasket set?
Thanks,
Ernie

From your local hardware store or auto supply, yes. From Horizon, no. Sorry.

Sorry to break the thread here, but I seem to have been bounced out of the 'notifications' for Club Saito. It happened once, then someone fixed it, and now it's happening again.
I learn a lot from this thread. I sure hate to miss any of the discussions... Is this happening to anyone else? Or, is it something on my end. I get other notifications OK.
Thanks,
Bob

We have some older guys at the field but they rarely offer more than pleasant advice...on occasion. We are lucky in that regard. Some say nothing at all.
Don't listen to W8YE. He is always a big help when people need it. I've seen him not get a plane out of his truck because everybody needed this and that from him, and he had no time to fly the whole day.

Barrel springs are the rule, not the myth. The FA-125 is the first Saito without a barrel spring, Even the Saito air bleed carbs, because of their regulating valves, have barrel springs. I know of NO other engines without a barrel spring except for the simplest of air bleed carbs.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I had the intake O ring splitting problem on a new 72 bought in Dec 2002. I found a fix that has worked to this day. Two air conditioning system O rings were installed one behind the other where the pipe meets the head. Seals nicely and does not allow any fore/aft movement. These were bought at a Pep Boys auto parts store in Sept 2003. They are green and the part # is 9053771. Still have the original plastic backplate too.
I also have a 56 and 100.
May I join the club?

Thanks for the hint on the FA-72. Intake leakage has been a constant problem with them.
Of course. You are number 197.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Finally finished reading the previous pages and I must say there are many words of wisdom for the Saito owners. I own three: 65, 72, & 91. I found the articles on the velocity stacks and filters to be very interesting. Sure would like to see more pictures of them installed and hear about the results gained from there use. I have learned a lot of nice tricks for setting the valves and the timing gears. I have also learned some good points on replacing bearings as well as what kind to use and a source to get them. What more can I say, keep up the good work, William Robison, and all the rest of contributors to this group.
P.S. William Robison, I get down to Panama City once in a while. Are there any good place to fly in that area? Sign me up and thanks for all your help.

I seldom get as far east as Panama City, but if you go west a bit and reach Fort Walton Beach you've hit a hot bed of modeling. From there to Pensacola there are about 15 fields to fly. My club, Northwest Florida Modellers, has seven of its own. Visit our site, www.nfmi.org for details, and links to other area clubs. You are welcome to visit both the site and our fields.
Because of insurance rules we have to keep the gates locked, call a club officer for access. They're listed on our web site.
Thanks for the kind words, and I've added you as member number 199.

Bill,
Having lived in Enterprise, Al and hopping down to the Panama City area often, how is the weather for flying along your area? How are the winds? I can't remember now except for winds right on the beach areas. I've thought of moving back down to that area.
Flylow- Thanks for the double O ring info. I'll try that. W8YE sent me a picture of his new backplate, and my 2 yr old .72 is missing the washers. I'll need to get those as the newer engines have them.
If Skip is who I think he is, he owns Saitos. I remember him asking someone at the SPA meet why they don't fly with Saito .91s and the answer was a bit, ahem, questionable to me. They all have OS .91 Surpass engines.

Barry:
For the last few days I've had my door propped open to take advantage of the mild weather. Even in the dead of winter the daytime temperature seldom fails to get in the 60s, even though night can bring temperatures in the mid to upper 30s. Summer time is 100% a/c, day and night.
The winds are seldom bad, except in the spring for a couple or three weks, usually even then the winds fall around 4:00 pm to flyable levels for all size models. And of course, when a hurricane comes along it's usually a little too windy to fly.
Bill.

Bill,
Keep rubbing it in...
At 5:00 AM it's -4 F and winds are at 16 mph here in Iowa!
But just think how much more power my 1.00 will put out in this cold, dry air...

Gary,
You're just as bad as Bill!
That picture really made me smile.
I'm from the Gulf Coast of Texas and this weather makes me keep playing the Jerry Jeff Walker song London Home Sick Blues over and over in my head.
I was planning on putting the new ceramic bearing set in my Saito 1.00 today but it's going to be too cold in the garage...even though it's has heat if I turn it up!
Besides, I need to give Bill a break from all the pestering emails I send him when I get in to trouble!
As far as creaking bones I'm already there...everything from carrying titanium plates and at least one broken bone in every limb...including ribs!
Ouch!
