The .90 triple with its single carb is very uncomplicated. I don't think the .90 triple would make foam even in a solid mounted tank.

Thanx for the replies, as far as the tank-mount is concerned, the tank is not mounted solidly at all, the motor hardly vibratates and the tank does not shake througout the whole rev-range.
I have had my suspitions that it might be not enough pressure from the Keleo, so I will try to restrict the exhaust flow this weekend and see if it is any better. What type offuel pumps are availiable for this motor, and where would I get it?

Yes, they do, but we are already talking about ridiculously expensive engines anyway. A lean several runs on one of the radials is really going to cost some money to repair.

Ever take a look at a full size radial and see how it is rubber mounted? There is no such thing as a shake-free reciprocating piston engine. Radials may shake less than single cylinder engines, but they still shake.

What a guy!

Earlier this evening I spoke with Frank Bowman, ring guru extraordinaire, and all I can say is this guy knows more about cylinders, pistons, rings and extracting every available ft/lb of torque, power and rpm from our stock engines than any machinist I've ever known(and there are plenty)!

Ordered several sets of rings for immediate maintenance/rebuilds as well as back-ups and spares for later rebuilds on the rest of the fleet. Now I'm really excited and anxiously awaiting the mail this coming week. Wish I still lived in Sante Fe, I'd drive 1/2 way 'cross NM on over to his place just to see his production tools and pick up the rings today. After reading up on his products on this board and numerous others, it just makes me all the more eager to give them a go.

He's quite the wealth of information and interesting stories to boot...and very willing to share that knowledge. If you know anything about mechanics, metallurgy or tool and die he'll get as technical as you can stand and seems to be perfectly well versed in the art of simplifying it as well. After about an hour and 15 minutes I thought my head was going to explode with everything I was trying to glean from his tutoring. Being an info junky, it was like a short trip to "Wonderland" for me. Just hope I can retain even 10% of it all.

Thanks to those who have helped to make this valuable resource known on the boards. I'm quite happy, even in advance, to join the ranks of the Bowman ring users.

I had a Type-F plug in my .82 that was giving me some idle issues. Sometimes it would cut off when I removed the glow plug. After I ran it up and it got nice and warm, it would idle without heat. I flew it several times like this without issue.

Then I found a new Type-F plug in a drawer and used it. I gained 1000 RPM on the top end. Before I had no baseline, as it's the first 3-blade prop on this engine for me. I never imagined a plug would still work, allowing flights and taxing around, and everything else....and still be so bad it robs 1000 RPM from the top end.

I've had engines die when I remove the heat from the plug before. Sometime I would change plugs sometimes not. Maybe I should change plugs everytime this happens?

Type-F are on sale for 6.99! So I bought a few...

You are correct indeed, sir!

That was just the first/most informative link on google that had a pretty comprhensive overview of his capabilities, though the list has grown.

He had most of what I wanted in stock and I've sent him an FA62a cyl and piston so he'll have that ring available soon as well.

Current price was 1 for $12 or 2 for $22 shipped under 1"dia ring, and $1 or 2 more for larger rings. (Most .60 and under are less than 1.00" ring...the FA62a is a 1.0315". Small twins and radials are usually under 1'' as well..170r3 has .973") He also has bulk pricing for larger orders. He takes cash, check, M.O. or PayPal(no surcharge for orders under $100) but does not have CC option. Really nice and knowledgeable man to talk with.

I have a Saito 91 that I bought from a friend a couple years ago. The engine sat on the shelf until now I am putting it on a new pulse 60. I installed a new OS F plug, adjusted valve clearance, fueled it up and took it out to run it. I could not get that thing to even cough!

I thought maybe my glow starter was dead so I hooked it up to my power panel which showed good amps... Still wouldn't start. I was turning it with an electric starter and noticed good fuel vapor coming out of the exhaust. I hadn't messes with the needle because I figured the prior owner had it set about right. When it wouldn't start I turned it in and backed it out 2 turns. Way more fuel came out the exhaust but still nothing.. Not even a little cough. What else can I do to get this thing running?

Do you have compression? Maybe one of the valves are sticking?

The throttle has to be partially open. They will not start with a full open throttle

Yes it has good compression. 1/8 to 1/4 throttle. Is it easy to take the head off these like a 2 stroke? Maybe take a look around?

It may be out of time on the cam or something if it is a used engine? Someone had it apart and didn't know how to get it back together correctly?

Maybe when I adjusted the valves I got one too tight and it's open a little bit? I just checked though and it seems like it has as much compression as my sato .72

Ok, went out and turned it over slowly by hand and tried to observe like you said... Didn't notice this before but there is a lot of fuel coming out of the front of the engine behind the prop. Could I have a bad bearing? Would an air leak at the front bearing keep the engine from running?

It very well be that it has a bad bearing but that has nothing to do with why it didn't fire

Ok, so I checked the valves again, everything looked good. Pulled the plug out and checked that it was good. Went to put it back in and noticed it wasn't going past the first threads. Took it out cleaned up the threads a little and torqued that sucker all the way down. The threads were pretty messed up but I got it all the way down and tight.

Went to start it and it fired up IMEDIATELY and ran great. Idle was beautiful. I'm glad i didnt mess with the low needle! Kind of startled me because I was expecting to crank it for awhile. Iguess my problem was the glow plug wasn't down far enough and/or blow by past the plug. I'm just glad it's running good. Hope that os plug lasts a long time because I'm not looking forward to taking it out!
