Yes lots of Bullet motor cycle, even I had one Electra 4S which I bought in 2002 but I sold it last year. But my brother has one Bullet Deluxe which he bought in 1989. Recently my friend Nadeem has bought one, Electra 5S. Here many people have this motor bike but I don't wish to buy anymore because they have changed old engine to new Swiss Twin Spark engine. I am riding bullet motor bike from 1989 and that time I was only 14 years old, so from that time to till now I have ride many types bullet models but I don't like this Twin Spark engine at all, people like me who are using bullet from long time none of them like this new engine, this engine is good but no such real feeling like the old one. People who never had experiences of old bullet for them this new engine seem no problem, they are enjoying all new models but I know what they are missing actually. I am going to buy Saito 82 in April or May; it is not available in India so I have to wait for someone who will come to India from USA. I can buy online but the problem is customs, here customs create lots of problems without any valid reason. So just to avoid customs problems I have to wait for someone who can bring it with him or post me the engine personally as gift. If company posts me the engine then custom will ask for import license and other lots of documents. But if the sender is an individual person and writes a letter with the engine that it is gift then no problem. Long time back I bought MVVS engine from the company same way but I had to pay 19% Vat because if the company send it as gift then it will be local sale which mean I must pay VAT but if company send it as Company then no VAT at their end but at my side it will be Import and I must produce import papers and then pay duty which has no fixed %, depends on the mood of that office who will be in charge at that time, if he had fight with his wife at morning then he might take revenge on my engine. Our customs people are worst than Taliban, in fact they never had to spent their salary to run family or any expenses, they are living on the bribe money and their one day under table income is more than one man’s monthly income. Don’t think I am telling you all these just from few incidents, I worked in a computer company 3 yrs and used to import computer and other electronics goods from China and that time I had to deal customs a lot, if you have doubt then just come to Kolkata and I will take you to see everything in real.

Hi Dave. Back a few years a guy at Dahlgren was importing the Royal Enfield. He had to replace some engine internals to keep them together, but then they were OK. My memory fails me to his name, but maybe by the time I see you Saturday I will have remembered.

OMG, I am sorry to hear you have that much trouble getting a Saito in India.
As so many others have say, they are a pain to break in, but after they are sweet and last forever with good care

Yes lopflyers, customs is big problem for us, but it is not just about SAITO, it is about any r/c hobby related items. As per our custom law radio is restricted item. So I have to find someone who can help me to get this engine from USA. If someone carrying it while they visit India there is no problem unless it is a radio. You people are lucky that in your country things are available so easily and if anything wrong you can ask for replacement but for us it is not very easy.

I just sold some electric jet stuff and bought a Saito 180 GK. I previously owned a Saito 150 and am estimating that I ran 35 gallons of fuel through it. Adjusted the valves twice and only had one mechanical failure due to the backlash nut loosening up and the pushrod on the intake side came off. It was an easy fix at the field and I was back in the air in about 1/2 an hour. I ran Wildcat 15% nitro with 16% castor/synthetic mix and always a O.S. Type-F glowplug.

I am thinking about running some comparrison tests by running straight methanol with 0% nitro and 16% lube in the 180 AFTER run-in is complete. I have heard that the 180 has more vibration than the 150.

My question is; Has anyone comparred the running temps of the GK to the non-coated standard "silver" Saitos???

I saw the 180 GK N.I.B. ( white box version ) on eBay listed with a 'Buy It Now" for $350 shipped. Pondered in agony over it for 4 days and then gave in to my urges. It is ALMOST as purddy as a long legged blonde. I am married to a long legged blonde so I have the right to make the comparrison! I have the engine sitting here in front of me and she just walked by. Yup.....almost as purddy! Damned close though!

bpenner697, the set screw in the high speed needle is metric, an M3-.5 X 3mm long. You can get 100 ea for $4.10 from www.mcmaster.com, item # 91390A097. Alternatively since you are in Houston, you can go to one of 10 Fastenal stores. Call ahead and tell them what you need and if they do not have them they will get them in the store usually the next day if you call before lunch. www.fastenal.com

I think McMaster is the better way to go - if you call them Ibet they will send USPS for $1 because 100 ea of those tiny fasteners is probably less than an oz., or pretty close.

Hope this helps. You can try Home Depot or an Ace Hardware, but I am guessing that they won't have something that small.

Lop, Saitos are not dfficult to break in, it takes about 40 minutes and if you set the LS needle for optimum during the break in and run the HS about 200 rpm rich of peak, you're done. The LS needle controls about 80% of the throttle range mixture so it has a huge effect on the fuel consumption. It seems many quit too soon when setting the LS needle. Every Saito somone has sent me to check out has had the LS needle about 3/4 to 1 full turn too rich. I believe w8ye/Jim finds the same thing.

Just about everyone at my field who runs Saitos have them set too rich. Nobody attempts the 25-30 second idle test for the low speed on their two strokes either.

Has any one noticed any vibration improvment for the Saito 82b compared to the older Saito 82a? Seems the 82b is heavier then the 82a and I was hopping those extra Oz are in a better balanced crank.

Rich is good for Saitos but not to rich and definitely not lean as you cook them with prolonged engine running.
Now my old mate / mentor made a statement to the efect that he was no longer buying kits (still has approx 50 left to build plus a couple of dozen ARTFs to assemble) or buying any more engines (5 x YS's and approx 20 Saitos).  Old age (73) and cunning he has beat me to another 6 Saitos, a racing Triumph Commando (not the Norton but an earlier bike) and a Royal Enfield both of which he rides to terrorise the local cops and "save money on fuel"
Saito's of various persuasions (sizes) are turning up more often in the O/T circuit as the weapon of choice because of their ready adaptability to either performance or economy depending on the discipline you are flying on the day.  The wide range of props and dependability (if treated properly) make them ideal engines for both beginner and long time competitor and they are relatively cheap and easy to use.

The new Saito 72b is the same weight as the 72a. The 82a was lighter then the 72a, but now the 82b is heavier then the 72a or b. So there is got to be some difference somewhere.

The difference is in the validity of the numbers you are reading

I would venture to say that the "B" engines are both heavier then the "A" engines because of . . . .

The aluminum back plate rather than the plastic one

The longer steel cam pivot shaft

And the increased weight of the crankcase casting and cam cover

The rest of the parts are the same
