If I had a ST 2000, 2500, 3000 series Super Tiger, I would be converting it to gas.

I converted my Saito 150 to gasoline.
What gas to oil ratio are you using?

Huk you could increase your nostalgic feeling about your money by adding an on board fuel gauge with a downlink to the tx
That way I would enjoy it as my money transitions from my pocket to become nostalgia.

I always thought it would be interesting to fly in the same club as you!!! I bet we would have lively conversations.

What would be a good ARF for a saito twin 90? What would be a good ARF for a twin 100?

My buddy has both of these engines and will allow me to use one in a plane. He provides either engine, I provide everything else.

I like to fly Sticks, a Stck 60 would be perfect for either.

Hi GUys,

I just found out that I hadn't received a Club Saito notice for almost a month, so I've missed out on some things.

I have a question which may have already been discussed. Could anyone tell me if Saito has discontinued the FA-62 and the FA-125? I just went looking for them on the HH website and see that they're no longer carried. I was able to get other engines to come up, like the 56, 72, 82, 115 etc.

Are engines like the .62 and .125 gone, and if so, which others have they discontinued recently.

Thanks,

Bob

Thanks., JohnB. I was doing an individual search which is how I came up with the "Discontinued" message from HH. I just got a NIB 125 last January and it seemed too soon to discontinue it. I appreciate the feedback.

Mineral oil is pretty much anything derived from crude oil. Distinctions are kind of blurry. I used Klotz Super Techniplate; it's 20% castor, will blend with gas and/or alky.

I am fairly new to Saito's. I have a 72 and a 115. Both are about 2 years old. However, the 72 was broken in and then sat for close to a year before I came to be it's owner. The 115 is rock-solid, idle's great. I've had a few issues with the 72. Mostly, having trouble getting it to idle lower and finicky trying to tune it. When I rotate the prop on the 115 I feel a pretty solid pop when going thru the compression stroke. I don't get nearly anywhere near that feeling on the 72. I realize they are quite different in displacement but wonder if the ring could be an issue in the 72. I happened upon on a thread about replacing rings with one's made by Frank Bowan and this made me interested in posting this question. Is there a way to compare? Suggestions? Thank you.

have you first checked your valve clearances?....a slightly open valve could do it..

I recently readjusted the valve gaps on one of my 4-strokes (not a Saito). Now I have a good compression. I thought I had adjusted it properly before, but I was mistaken. Trying a second time got it right.

I used to get carried away setting the finest clearances i could and that takes a fair bit of effort, until one day i was in a hurry and overdid it on one of my 82b's in a decathlon.Flipped the prop with throttle wide open and no compression at all.Exhaust valve was not quite shut and that can be terminal. These days i'm happy at .004

I would try to get it wet with fuel and turning over. check the rods and valve rockers. make sure nothing popped out of place. try to get it to run and get some time on it.

set the high sped needle to max RPM at full throttle, then set LS needle by leaning it out until it wont rev up without stumbling, then go back 1/8 turn rich.. make sure to richen HS needle 200-400 RPM down from peak

if you have a plastic backplate you may need to replace the backplate and the intake Oring.

He's right about the plastic backplate if that's what you have, especially if it's an old 72. The intake manifold will vibrate and wiggle in the head causing air leaks and poor idling / dead sticks.

Hi

I have a new Saito 5 cylinder engine. Would anyone be able to tell me if I will have to prime the engine every time I start it.

The reason I would like to know is that I am installing it in a 1/4 scale Waco which has a closed cowl, and I need to plan where to mount the primer tube.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

If you have already mounted the engine(325?) in an airframe i'd leave it there almost no vibration.Drop about 3mils of fuel down the primer tube every time you flick it to start even from cold.

Yes, it has a black plastic back plate. How do Itell if it is an "old" 72? This was purchased at the LHS 2 (not more than 3) years ago.

Horizon lists' this part number for an 82. Correct?
Item: SAI82B17

I believe I read that this is the same part.

I am interested in the carb upgrade kit:

Upgrade Carburetor Rebuild Kit: FA-72

By: Saito Engines
Item: SAI72144

Is the upgrade kit worth it? What's the difference?

And, will I need to put a gasket between the new back plate the body?

Thank you all for the information. It truely is invaluable.

On the 72, the plastic back plate means it's the older version.
The new one is the 72B. (SAIE072B)
Yeah, same backplate for the 72 and the 82.

I never saw that Carb Upgrade before. I wonder if it's new.
It does have a helpful diagram with it:
