Not only do the 120/150/180/220 engines have the spring in the carburetor, it seems that the 56/62/72/82/91/100/115 have them also.
Part # SAI91S90 is used in the 82-115 engines while the smaller engines use a similar part. Scroll down on the page linked below, it's the 7th part illustration down.

Seems to me that some slight relief cut into the end of the FA125 carbuetor barrel for clearance would allow room for this.
Why in the world did Saito eliminate this on just the 125?

I also seem to recall from previous discussions here that the plastic crankcase backplate could cause some vibration issues? Would the latest metal version be of any benefit?

From what I've read here the metal back plate is of great benefit, I never had problems with the plastic backplate and Dar now has my .72 and has not any problem either.

From what I remember, only one person posted about problems with his 82 plastic backplate.
My 72 gave me and W8YE a lot of headaches.

I'm the one who had troubles with the .82 and the plastic backplate. The engine was mounted on a plastic beam mount and that was flexing in addition to the backplate flexing - allowed the intake tube to move away from the head, causing a very poor, unreliable idle. The metal backplate fixed it for good. I have two .72s with plastic backplates, but no troubles in 9 years. One of the club members had a .72 with a plastic backplate that DID NOT have the 45 degree "butresses" under the carb mount. That was nothing but trouble until we changed it.

Hello folks, it's been some time since I last posted in this thread. Wow! 950 pages already and still going strong!
Anyway, I just wanted to ask a quick question: I have a Saito 82 (old case) and I need to get the engine gasket set. Will the Saito 91 gaskets fit the old 82 http://www.horizonhobby.com/products...k-ee-SAI91S32A ? Thanks!
PS. It seems to be out of stock at Horizon and elsewhere. Any ideas where it's available? What I really need is the cam gear housing gasket

Mike, the .72 gasket set would probably fit, although it only has the rocker cover gaskets ans O- rings. There does not appear to be a backplate gasket.

Hobbsy, thanks for the info. The other option I have is to make my own gasket. I could use the ultra copper RTV, but I would prefer to cut out my own gasket. What material can I use, and how thick? Does the gasket thickness have any influence on the cam-pushrod operation?

The only difference between the old & new case 82 should be the cam housing gasket & as pointed out, you can make one from a grocery bag.

The gasket sets i bought two years ago off the internet,all us sites.Now i got more gaskets and seals for god knows what saito to last me well into the second life;average cost per set was about three bucks shipped.I should'nt say this but you know i'm going to.If you want a real accurate cam cover gasket just cut it out of a hustler front page glossy photo

Read your post and was wondering if the engine has had a big nose first dive into the ground recently,with the prop off and spinning it does the crank look like it has any runout?
The thunder tigre 75 is a good reliable engine,as you know,the eighty two is lighter and much more powerful if you are flying it in something like a decathlon.It's a buzz

I am seeking some advise on a Saito .40. I was flying my P-51 and everything was going great till the engine quit. This Saito has been run for a while with nothing but perfect service, onriches brew 15% nitro turning a 11x6 prop. It seems that the lower end of the conrod broke. I am wondering if I should just fix that or replace the engine as I have another NIB waiting. Any thoughts as to what could have caused this?
