Thanks guys, probably about another week or to before she's ready, but will probably go like a bat out of hell with 10lbs of thrust!! I can't get the flaps to reverse running through the control box, so will have to figure out the wiring coming from the wing and bypass and go straight to the RX.

I was finally able to get out and do some hi-speed taxi testing to test this controller on my Habu32x with a K30, worked really well. The jet stopped straight every time. However, I have not actually flown it yet, so I'll report back as soon as I test it on an actual landing. In the meantime, I have another unit that I'm going to install in my Freewing T33 with an X45. The main gear are much closer to each other on the T33, so it will be interesting to see how the unit works on the T33 compared to the Habu. So far, though, it's looking very promising. - Tom

Tom,

I flew my F-4 several times earlier this week and after touchdown I would apply the brakes and completely take my hands off the transmitter . . . straight as an arrow braking (and this is on a geotextile runway) 👍

Greg, thanks for the info. If this unit works as well as I'm thinking it will I'm going to retrofit my other micro turbine jets with them. Has anyone tried this unit on a larger jet with electric brakes? -Tom

Tom,

The steering gyro on this unit also keeps it on the centerline during takeoff . . . a friend of mine has one guiding his Aerojet Viper with 73" wingspan.

Looking good Greg! Post pic of your pipe. Been wanting to see one of the small ones from Joey. Is that a Keith 3D tank?

You got it! Hopefully you'll see it all ready to fly in person next Saturday

Yes the tank is by Keith . . . great design.

I weighed the 6S power system (fan unit, motor, ESC, & wiring) and it came out to 1.35 lbs. the turbine sits in the same spot and only weighs 1.03 lbs

Carving this jet up was crazy.

Thankfully I only sliced through 1 servo wire . . . LOL!

LOL, thats what they make solder and heat shrink tube for! Look forward to seeing it next week. I have a new X-45 in my F-4 now. Test flight next week also.

More progress this evening

Love me some aluminum tape!

Weighed everything & I'm at 7.7 pounds without receiver battery.

Sorry to mention as i know you are not done but it is a good idea to safety wire all the tubes where they go over the nipples. Air bubbles would be deadly.

Thanks for the heads up Ducmoz . . . still have to make sure the C/G is going to be good once my pipe arrives (more than likely Monday).

I'm also going to get the solid on/off valve and fuel line reducers (6mm to 4mm and 4mm to 3mm).

Greg

All that's left is to install the pipe and the fuel tank hardware

Hi Greg, no problem. A successful turbine conversion means an additional jet pilot for our community. Now please also check your UAT. I have not seen that one before but I am mostly sure that the nipples need to be on the top and might cause issues if installed side ways. I am sure the supplier can help on that also.

‘Thanks

Behzad,

The UAT is the same one Viper1GJ used in his Phantom (see post #47).

https://www.modelaviationproducts.co...-accessories/6

It is 2 oz. and since the fuel is fed to the pump from the very center of the unit, mounting orientation should not matter (vertical, horizontal, angled, etc.).

As long as you tilt the plane while filling to ensure the Uat is bubble free then you are correct regarding orientation.. .

optimum orientation is so that the nipples
are up iot evacuate all air out while filling

Looks awesome! I have mounted that same UAT with a K30 in a Habu32 and it works fine on it's side. As someone said here though, make sure you tilt the airframe when you are fueling to make sure you get the air out of the UAT. Also, on your safety wire, you will want to make sure you wrap the wire around twice before twisting it, that way you have even contact all the way around the tube. Can't wait to see video of this one! - Tom

Thanks Tom,

I flew her three times on Saturday adjusting the CG back after the first flight.

Second of all, it turns out my pipe was too close to the turbine and was not producing full thrust at max RPM.

Also I'm going to have to trim off some of the back of the fuel cell so I can slide it further aft . . . more centered over the CG.

We should be golden after that!

A special thank you to Vipet1GJ for his expertise and assistance on the Phantom Saturday.

Greg

Question for those of you using the AG63 gyro brake controller. I installed one in my FW T33 powered by Xicoy X45. I went through the setup and everything seemed like it was working correctly. On my first landing I hit the brakes and the whole jet immediately yawed 90 degrees to the right and slid down the runway (sideways). This is exactly the behavior I was hoping this device would prevent, so I'm looking for any advice on what to do next. Immediately after sliding down the runway sideways, I did some high speed taxing (almost fast enough to rotate) back and forth and the brakes stopped the jet perfectly straight every time. Any ideas? Thanks, Tom
