Bob, I feel your pain. I pre-ordered and paid for mine on 1 April (that's three months ago, tomorrow), and it's finally showing some progress, (although that "progress" is saying that it has been stuck in Customs in Los Angeles for the past eight days). I have an aircraft 50 cal and two Rat Patrol figures impatiently waiting on it to get here! -Mike

That's excellent. I'm still going to try and do it cheaper but it's really nice to know that this option is a good one and all I have to do is spend the money. I have a couple of different sound systems here, I just need to get the time to play with them. I'm taking the hetzer out for video tomorrow and that's been taking up all my time lately.

My top left Memphis, TN yesterday and is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. I will post a picture as soon as I can. The machine gun is also available; both at AsiaTees. Do a search under "Shop Manufacturers" for ROC Hobby and you will get a list of items. The list does change, the shocks were available a while ago but have disappeared again.

Here's the top

I'm not sure if I'll get one or try to make my own. This one has no sides and just doesn't look right to me. The same place has the .50 cal but it's rather pricey.

Well, the top came today! Fits perfectly and I like the look of the Jeep.
BUT... There will be a problem with scale figures. My DiD "Dixon the medic" used to peek over the windshield as do other 1/6 scale figures. I don't think I would be able to stretch the top over his head; especially if he wore his helmet. Right now my driver is an unknown toy figure from a thrift store wearing a uniform I bought from Amazon. I pulled the feet off so he can slouch on the seat and bent him as much forward as possible, but there is still a bump in the canvas. It will be acceptable to take the Jeep out crawling this way, but I will look at the way the head is mounted. Maybe I can slice a 1/4" out of the neck to make it look better.
Dixon has to be my fair weather driver when I go out without the top.

Just scroll up a couple of posts, Crius posted the links for the top and machine gun.
Any 1/6 scale (12") figure will work without the top on the Jeep. With the top a 11" figure will be better or you need to make some modifications. Somebody on YouTube recently posted a video where he replaced the seat cushions with thin cloth pads. I am still looking for a nice figure myself, some EBay sellers claim their GI Joe figures are only 11". I'll probably try that.

That shorter figure looks like he already has bugs in his teeth from driving that jeep...!
Why is it that the majority of 1/6 figures are 12"? As far as tank crew go you'd be hard pressed to find a 6 foot tanker in WWII...

Love your private army, Gary. The short guy does look like a candidate for a Jeep driver, hopefully it works and you can post info about his heritage.
I was able to pull the head off my mystery figure and push the second head from my medic on the torso. Not a perfect fit since they were made by different companies, but it stays in place. The medic came with two different heads and they are molded with a much shorter neck than the mystery figure. Although not much of an improvement, it did take the bump out of the canvass roof. Still hoping for your shorty.

Got my top & a replacement set of canopy poles from my local dealer. Cost me all of $13 for the top & arrived 2 days after I ordered. Gotta love Taobao!

So all this time I've been waiting for them to release the .50 cal, I totally forgot that this has been in the closet the whole time.
The fork lifts right off the tripod and should slide right into the proper size tube, but the hole where the post would snap into the jeep appears to be keyed so you put it in and turn 90 degrees to lock it in place. Has anyone gotten a .50 cal yet? I'd love to see a photo or two of the bottom of the post, thinking maybe I could duplicate it in aluminum. Or maybe someone has seen photos of the post that would help? I've been checking around and haven't found any myself, so if there's one you know of please speak up.

That's pretty cool, but by the time I get one to Detroit it will be a lot more and will take a lot longer to get here. Not to mention that I still haven't figgered out how to buy from taobao. But I guess there are deals no matter where ya live.

Yea, looks much better with the canvas on.
Regarding Taobao, easy to use via Google's Chrome browser with automatic translation & this seller takes overseas cards if you don't use Alipay.

Nope, not yet available here. Again, looks much nicer with the top on. My only wish would be if they'd used brass instead of stainless grommets on the front side - would look a lot better with some patina over time.
