RE: Mike Birch Models

Mike flew the Capricorn International competitively from 1972 - 1977. For most of this time he used HP 61 engines. His final model used a Kraft 61 as he was briefly a UK Kraft agent. I don't...

RE: Mike Birch Models

That's good news Alan and I look forward to the kits release. Will it be the standard Capricorn or the big International.

I am sure Rusty would appreciate it if you could post some detail shots...

RE: Mike Birch Models

Had an e mail recently from Rusty Dose who, for some reason, is banned from posting on this forum. He has acquired a Capricorn kit and hopes to finish it in the silver and yellow color scheme shown...

RE: Mike Birch Models

Yes, Mike placed 21st at the very first "Tournament of Champions" in December 1974.

Great box top photo - must have helped shift a few kits.

RE: Mike Birch Models

Alan,

Good to see you on the thread and best of luck with the kit project. Would still like to see some colour shots of Mike's Moonglow as mentioned earlier. I hope my few short posts have...

RE: Mike Birch Models

Haven't been able to find that RCM&E reference. I doubt there was a wooden version. It would be a beast to build as there wasn't a straight line or flat surface anywhere [:o]

As has been...

RE: Mike Birch Models

My understanding is that Matt used at the 1969, 1971 & 1973 World Champs a Superstar 1,2 & 3 respectively. Looking at the photographs I can see little difference between any of them. The 2 of course...

RE: Mike Birch Models

Piro - I also (vaguely) remember that. Think it was 1975, called "Model World" and presented by Bob Symes. I do remember the show's theme tune was "Planes & Boats & Trains"

RE: Mike Birch Models

Rodders,

Yes Mick Reeves did a kit for the Capricorn but some years earlier Mike himself sold them. This ad appeared very briefly in the summer of 1973 and is where I got my kit, accompanied by...

RE: Mike Birch Models

It certainly is FB. Mike is probably not that well known to many American readers but was, along with Ken Binks, the most consistently successful British F3A flyer. He was a great influence and...

RE: Mike Birch Models

In 1970 Mike moved from the Moonglow to the Capricorn. Apart from the fashionable deep "fish" type fuselage the models were dimensionally similar. The Moonglow wing planform was reversed to give...

RE: Mike Birch Models

To give you some idea of Mike's dominance of the UK pattern scene for almost ten years, here is his contest record.

British Nationals -

1967 6th Moonglow prototype
1968 1st ...

Mike Birch Models

You may have seen mention of Mike in the "Old Magazine Ads" thread. I think it deserves a seperate thread to discuss Mike and his two well known designs Moonglow and Capricorn. I am hoping Alan...
